Internationally acclaimed guitarist, singer/songwriter Chris Bergson brings a soulful, hard groovin’ organ trio to Uncle Cheef featuring NYC aces Brian Charette (organ) and Tony Mason (drums.) The trio will perform a mix of classic melodic, groovin’ jazz along with Bergson’s gritty blend of NY blues and soul. This trio has been playing together for 20+ years and collectively, its members have played with many luminaries across a wide range of genres including John Scofield, Norah Jones, Levon Helm (of The Band), Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Bernard Purdie, George Coleman, Charlie Hunter, Hubert Sumlin and Leo Nocentelli (of The Meters.)

Chris Bergson is an internationally acclaimed guitarist, singer and songwriter. “Chris Bergson plays the kind of guitar you can build a house on – it’s B.B. meets Steve Cropper meets John Scofield.” (ROLL Magazine) Hailed as “the New York street poet with a blues soul” (MOJO) and “one of the most inventive songwriters in modern blues music,” (All Music Guide) Bergson is best known as the leader of the Chris Bergson Band. Elmore Magazine calls the Chris Bergson Band “one of the most talented bands playing today…From blazing rock to funk to soul to Delta blues and all that’s in between.” Bergson is also an accomplished sideman who has performed with luminaries across a wide range of genres including Norah Jones, Levon Helm, Hubert Sumlin, Bernard Purdie, Annie Ross, Al Foster and Matt Wilson. The Chris Bergson Band’s 2007 album Fall Changes, recorded at The Band drummer Levon Helm’s studio in Woodstock, New York, was named MOJO Magazine’s Number One Blues Album of the Year in 2008. Bergson was inducted into the New York Blues Hall of Fame as a Master Blues Artist in 2015. Chris Bergson is currently an Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston where he teaches guitar and songwriting.

New York City organist/pianist, Brian Charette, has established himself as a leading voice in modern jazz. Charette is a Hammond U.S.A, Hammond Europe, I.K Multimedia, and Casio endorsed, Cellar Live recording artist. Brian is currently #2 on the 2023 Downbeat Critic’s Poll for Organ and also won 2023 “Rising Star: Keyboard”. Brian was also the winner of the 2014 Downbeat Critics’ Poll “Rising Star: Organ” award and 2015 Hot House Magazine’s “Fan’s Decision Jazz Award for Best Organist”. Charette’s new Cellar Live release, Jackpot, was recorded at Rudy Van Gelder’s hallowed studio featuring Bill Stewart on drums. The album received 4 stars from Downbeat and was on the Jazzweek radio chart for months, peaking at #9 for 6 weeks. Charette is also a prolific composer of large ensemble music, penning and performing compositions with The Jazz Dock Orchestra in Prague and The Modern Art Orchestra in Budapest.
New York City drummer Tony Mason grew up in Southern Pines, North Carolina and started playing the drums at the age of 7. After studying at East Carolina for one year, Tony came to NYC in 1986 to finish his education at The Manhattan School of Music, where he received a performance degree in classical percussion; he’s been a Brooklyn resident ever since.

Tony has toured and recorded with John Scofield, Joan Osborne, Norah Jones, Charlie Hunter, Shooter Jennings, Bernie Worrell, Bo Diddley, Martha Wainwright, Ivan Neville, Cyril Neville, George Porter Jr., Leo Nocentelli, Amy Helm, Leftover Salmon, Natalie Cole, Darlene Love, The Soup Dragons, Paula Cole, Jim Campilongo, Neil Sedaka, Connie Francis, Captain and Tennille, Baba Olatunji, Brooklyn Boogaloo Blowout, Billl Sims Jr., Bloomdaddies and many others. In the studio, Tony has worked with producers Nile Rodgers, Camu Celli, Ron St. Jermaine, Matt Pierson and the legendary Russ Titleman; he has also played on many commercials and television shows.
