Jerusalem String Quartet
Sunday, May 4, 2025, 3:00 pm, Sleepy Hollow High School Auditorium, Sleepy Hollow, NY
We are proud to bookend our 24-25 season with brilliant artists who uphold the glorious traditions of the string quartet – Han, Setzer, Finckel, who opened, and the members of the Jerusalem String Quartet, who will conclude the season.
In its three-decade career, the Jerusalem has gathered every accolade imaginable –
• “The word’s classiest quartet” (The Telegraph)
• “The crowd roared at [the concert’s] conclusion” (Tucson Weekly)
• “An absolute triumph. Their playing has everything you could possibly wish for.” (BBC Music Magazine)
The members of the Jerusalem Quartet are: Alexander Pavlovsky, first violin; Sergei Bresler, second violin; Kyri Zlotnikov, cello; Ori Kam, viola.
Since the ensemble’s founding in 1993, the four musicians have embarked on a journey of growth and maturation. This experience has resulted in a wide repertoire and stunning depth of expression, which carries on the string quartet tradition in a unique manner.
Their program for this afternoon will include:
- Joseph Haydn: Quartet in Bb-Major, Op 50, No. 1 (“Prussian”)
- Dmitri Shostakovich: Quartet No. 12 in Db-Major, Op. 133
- Johannes Brahms: Quartet in Bb-Major, No.3 Op. 67
Here they are, playing Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 1 in C major, Op. 49. One comment praised their “fantastic performance,” noting that “Jerusalem is one of the world’s leading string quartets.”
